Understanding Vermilion County Releases
“Released” describes the end of custody by one agency, not always the end of all custody. When the Vermilion County Sheriff ends a jail booking, the person may enter the community under a court order, finish a county sentence, or move to another authority. A transfer to the Illinois Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody closes the local booking but does not mean the person is free. The sheriff's release or transfer entry records what the jail did. The Circuit Clerk docket records what the judge ordered. Both records matter, but they answer different questions.
State-prison terms use a separate set of records. A person leaving Danville Correctional Center may begin mandatory supervised release, enter old-law parole, receive final discharge, or transfer within IDOC. Probation is a court sentence supervised through the county system. A detainer is another authority's request to hold or receive the person. “Time served” means the court credited enough custody to satisfy the imposed jail term. Keeping those terms separate is the first step toward an accurate Vermilion County release history.
- Release
- One agency ends a specific custody event.
- Transfer
- Custody continues under a receiving agency.
- Discharge
- The correctional status or supervision ends as the governing record states.
- Expungement
- A court-ordered remedy with the effect defined by Illinois law, not an automatic result of release.
Vermilion County Release Paths
The release type controls where the next reliable record appears. Illinois no longer uses legacy money-bail advice as the general current framework, so the court's actual pretrial order must be read. A dismissal can support release, yet another case, warrant, sentence, or hold can keep the person in custody. Likewise, a county commitment to IDOC is not community release even though the sheriff marks the local booking as ended.
| Recorded event | Meaning | Best next source |
|---|---|---|
| Court-ordered or pretrial release | The local booking may end after checks and processing. | Sheriff timestamp plus Circuit Clerk order |
| Time served or sentence complete | The county sentence is satisfied as ordered and calculated. | Judgment and sheriff release entry |
| Probation | A community sentence follows the court judgment. | Vermilion court and probation records |
| IDOC commitment or transfer | State custody continues after county custody ends. | Sheriff transfer entry and IDOC profile |
| Parole or MSR | Prison custody ends while state supervision continues. | IDOC status, dates, and applicable PRB records |
| Federal or immigration handoff | Another authority receives the person. | Receiving agency record and court docket |
A single unlabeled “release date” can blur these events. Preserve the source's terms, such as county transfer, IDOC admission, Parole Date, projected discharge, and final discharge. The dates may differ without any source being wrong.
Vermilion County Release Record Fields
A narrow request should identify the booking and ask for named fields. The most useful response ties the end of custody to the original booking, the legal authority, and any receiving agency. Database labels may vary, so request both the booking sheet and the release, discharge, or transfer log or screen entry. A VINE alert can support the timeline, but it is not the sheriff's original record.
| Field to request | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Full name and booking or jail number | Connects the release entry to the correct booking. |
| Booking date and committing agency | Identifies the custody event being researched. |
| Court and case number | Links the jail action to the public judicial file when available. |
| Release date and time | Shows when the sheriff recorded the booking as ended. |
| Release type, reason, or disposition | Distinguishes community release from transfer or another outcome. |
| Receiving agency or destination | Shows where custody continued if the field is releasable. |
| Hold or detainer disposition | Explains whether another authority affected the exit. |
| Associated booking photograph | Identifies the image tied to that booking, if releasable. |
The judge's order may precede the jail's completed processing. Other warrants, records checks, property processing, or a transfer can produce a later operational timestamp. For the precise time a person left the Vermilion County Jail, the sheriff entry is primary. For the legal basis, use the court order.
Request Vermilion County Release Records
The Vermilion County FOIA form and instructions provide the county route. Send a purpose-neutral request to foia@vercounty.org, or confirm delivery with the Sheriff's Department at 217-442-4080. Name the person, give an approximate booking and release date range, identify the Public Safety Building, and state the exact records sought. Broad demands for every record about a person can slow identification and raise unrelated privacy issues.
- Confirm the spelling, approximate booking date, and any known case or booking number.
- Ask for the booking sheet and the release, discharge, or transfer entry, including date, time, disposition, and receiving authority if releasable.
- Request electronic delivery. Ask for reasonably separable nonexempt portions and a cited legal basis for each withholding.
- If no record is found, ask whether another spelling, alias, operator, or record-series name was searched.
- Keep the response with the court and custody timeline. Ask the issuing office about correction or certification when needed for a legal process.

No separate public release-desk hours were published.
Under Illinois FOIA, 5 ILCS 140, a noncommercial request generally receives a response within five business days, subject to a lawful extension. The first 50 letter- or legal-size black-and-white pages are generally free, and later pages are capped at $0.15 each. Electronic media may involve actual medium cost. These rules do not promise that every field or image will be released.
Vermilion Release Record Limits
Illinois FOIA section 2.15 calls for specified arrest information as soon as practicable and generally within 72 hours after arrest. It does not require Vermilion County to publish a rolling 72-hour release list. Section 7 exemptions, juvenile confidentiality, court orders, privacy, security, and active investigative needs may lead to redaction or withholding. Separable nonexempt material must still be assessed under the law.
County records are retained under the Local Records Act and approved schedules. No source reviewed establishes one universal retention period for every Vermilion release log or booking image. Removal from a website is not the same as lawful destruction, while agency retention does not require permanent online access. If an old record cannot be located, ask for the record-series title, retention schedule, and destruction authority.
Vermilion Release and Expungement Packets
Release does not seal or expunge a case. The Vermilion Circuit Clerk's Expungement Packets and statewide approved Illinois Courts forms support the court process under 20 ILCS 2630/5.2. Eligibility depends on the disposition, offense, sentence, waiting period, history, and a court order. A booking ending in release does not clear the public record by itself.
Sealing restricts ordinary public access as the statute and order provide. Expungement has the legal effect set by the governing law and order. If a case no longer appears online, do not assume the underlying event never occurred. Sealing, expungement, juvenile confidentiality, portal limits, or a search mismatch can all explain the missing result.
When Vermilion Jail Releases Occur
The Vermilion County Sheriff's official page does not publish a release-time schedule, exit door, weekend or holiday routine, family waiting area, transportation plan, or property-return procedure. Current logistics must come from the jail at 217-442-4080. When a durable answer is needed, request the written release and property policy. Generic claims that everyone exits through a certain lobby or that releases occur around the clock are not supported by the county source.
The same caution applies to a court order. An order may authorize release before administrative checks and physical processing are complete. Call before traveling, and do not infer a door-out time from the docket alone.
Search Vermilion County Released Inmates
Start with the last confirmed custodian. There is no verified official Vermilion County 24-hour or 72-hour release feed. A person who leaves a current-custody view may have entered the community, transferred, or disappeared because of a data or spelling issue. The original release or transfer entry supplies the key distinction.
- For a recent county booking, call the sheriff and ask whether that booking is active, released, or transferred. Request the exact event date and disposition.
- Check the person through the VINELink Release Check and save the reporting agency, event, and event date exactly as shown.
- Use the Vermilion Circuit Clerk's county-specific court portal for the release, dismissal, sentence, commitment, or probation order.
- If state custody followed, search IDOC and read status, location, parole date, and projected discharge as separate fields.
- Use BOP or ICE only when the facts show a federal or immigration handoff. Then obtain the sheriff or receiving-agency record for confirmation.
- Submit focused sheriff, IDOC, court, or federal requests to the custodian that actually holds the record.
A missing jail entry does not prove community release. Confirm whether the disposition was release or transfer.
The Released Last 24 Hours and Released Last 72 Hours pages provide different fallback workflows for immediate confirmation and written follow-through. Neither claims that Vermilion publishes a list that was not found.
IDOC Search for Vermilion Releases
Use the Illinois Department of Corrections Individual in Custody Search when a Vermilion court committed the person to IDOC or the person was held at Danville Correctional Center. Search by last name, IDOC number, or birthdate. The official examples allow a full or partial surname, an IDOC identifier, or a date in the displayed format. Open the full matching profile and compare identifiers before recording any status.
The profile can show Parent Institution, Location, Offender Status, admission and sentence data, institutional photographs, and exact labels such as Projected Parole Date, Last Paroled Date, Parole Date, and Projected Discharge Date. `PAROLE` supports that the person left prison into state supervision. It does not mean final discharge. A projected date can change after credits, discipline, a new sentence, revocation, or correction.
| Search or profile field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Last name, IDOC number, birthdate | Alternative search modes, not a released-only filter. |
| Offender Status | The main reported state status; quote it exactly. |
| Parent Institution and Location | Administrative institution and displayed placement or parole district. |
| Parole Date | A reported prison-to-supervision event, not necessarily sentence completion. |
| Projected Discharge Date | The anticipated later end of correctional status if unchanged. |
The official IDOC landing screen illustrates the correct starting point for a state record. Open the IDOC search instructions before using the embedded form.
The screen is a state-prison route. It is not an archive of people released only from the Vermilion County Jail. IDOC does not provide a verified discharged-only filter or a guarantee that every fully discharged profile remains searchable, so use IDOC public information or FOIA when a historical profile is missing.
Vermilion Release Orders Use eMagnus
Vermilion County routes its own public cases through the Circuit Clerk's Clericus Magnus/eMagnus case-search path and a direct Vermilion public inquiry. The county describes Judici as an option for other counties. Searching the wrong portal can create a false negative. In the local docket, read the chronological entries, pretrial or bond orders, disposition, judgment, sentence, commitment, probation, and later discharge-related orders that remain public.
The county-specific portal is the durable route after a jail entry disappears. A court release order explains legal authority, but the sheriff's entry still establishes when county custody actually ended.
Vermilion Release Case Codes
The clerk's Vermilion criminal-case guide publishes local codes that prevent category errors. CF marks felony matters and CM marks misdemeanor matters, which are common adult criminal routes. DT and TR relate to DUI and traffic cases. CC identifies criminal contempt. Reading the code before opening the docket narrows the search and helps connect the right order to the right booking.
JA, JD, and J signal juvenile categories. Those records are restricted and must not be handled like adult Vermilion County release records. The separate juvenile detention process protects youth information, so adult booking-photo and released-person instructions do not carry over.
Request Vermilion Release Court Files
When eMagnus is slow or incomplete, the Circuit Clerk publishes allrecordrequest@vercounty.org and the Records & Searches line at 217-554-7734. Give the name and case number when known, then identify the judgment, docket entry, release order, dismissal, commitment, probation order, or discharge order needed. Ask whether copy or certification fees apply.
This is a judicial record route. Do not send a court-file request through sheriff FOIA merely because the case involved the jail. The clerk holds the court file, while the sheriff holds the jail's operational release or transfer record.
Verify Vermilion Post-Release Supervision
Modern Illinois prison sentences often lead to mandatory supervised release, or MSR. IDOC Records calculates the statutory date, the Prisoner Review Board administers conditions and relevant violation proceedings, and IDOC parole staff provide field supervision. Old-law indeterminate parole and qualifying youthful parole have different hearing tracks. Do not describe every Danville prison release as a parole-board grant.
For a person, begin with the IDOC profile. A `PAROLE` status, parole district, Parole Date, and future Projected Discharge Date together support prison release into supervision. No verified public Vermilion agent directory was found. Use IDOC's public route rather than inventing a local office. Probation stays separate: read the Vermilion court judgment and later orders, then use county probation or Court Services records. More detail appears under Parole / Probation.
Vermilion Release Alerts and Transfers
Illinois VINELink can report a participating agency's custody event and register notifications by offered phone, email, text, or app channels. Record the agency, location, event, date, and status exactly. Coverage and archive duration are not guaranteed, and no result is not proof of release. OffenderWatch and the Illinois State Police registry cover only people with a registration duty; neither is a general list of Vermilion County released inmates.
For a federal sentence, the BOP inmate locator searches by federal identifier or name and covers federal incarceration from 1982 to the present. A BOP release date does not prove the end of supervised release or the absence of another hold. USMS has no equivalent public historical release locator. ICE ODLS is mainly a current detention locator, excludes minors, and does not provide a complete historical release archive. These routes apply only when a local record shows the relevant handoff.
Where Vermilion Release Records Appear
Choose the source by event. One system rarely supplies the full custody-to-release timeline.
| Question | Primary source | Do not substitute |
|---|---|---|
| When did the county booking end? | Sheriff release or transfer entry | Roster disappearance |
| What did the judge order? | Vermilion Circuit Clerk docket | VINE alert |
| Did state prison custody end? | IDOC actual status and date | A future projected date |
| Did probation end? | Court discharge order and county records | IDOC parole search |
| Did a federal sentence end? | BOP locator or record | Illinois VINE |
| Is the person in ICE custody? | ICE ODLS or authorized inquiry | An ODLS no-result as proof of release |
Label each date by event: court release ordered, county booking released, county transfer, IDOC admitted, prison parole or MSR, VINE event, and final discharge. This prevents a lawful transfer from being reported as community release.
Vermilion County Release Facilities
Vermilion County Jail / Public Safety Building handles adult local custody and transfers through the Sheriff's Department. Danville Correctional Center is an IDOC state prison, so its releases and transfers appear in state records. Vermilion County Juvenile Detention Center serves youth under confidential juvenile procedures. Authorized parents, guardians, attorneys, and court participants must use the facility or juvenile-court route rather than adult public-record instructions.
No verified BOP or ICE detention facility belongs to the county map. A federal or immigration transfer can still occur, but the receiving authority must be identified in the sheriff record before those locators are used.
